Examples of order:
- Lovebirds, amazons, macaws, and parrotlets
Habitat:
- They are distributed in the tropical and southern temperate regions of the world, including Madagascar, many Pacific islands and West Indies
- They are inhabited in the temperate southern hemisphere as well
What they eat:
- They eat fruits like berries, nuts, seeds, small creatures like insects
Method of eating:
- Their strong jaws allow them to snap open nutshells to get to the seeds that are inside
- Some use their longer beak to dig insects out of the ground for meal, others chew on vegetation and drink the juices
Physical Characteristics:
- All of the Psittaciformes share the same traits, they have curved bill, upright stance, and clawed zygodactylous ( two toes point forward and two to the rear) feet.
Behaviour:
- They are social birds live in groups called flocks
- They communicate with one another by squawking and moving their tail feathers
- They are monogamous which means they live with only one mate
